Pique ready to hit heights
GERARD Pique has the taste for senior action and is banking on Sir Alex Ferguson feeding his hunger.
Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic will be back in harness against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. But the 20-year-old Spaniard hopes his second Champions League goal against Roma on Wednesday, and partnership with Jonny Evans, has set down a reminder that the young duo can underpin the seniors.
"We showed we could play together at Champions League level," said Pique. "Rio and Nemanja are having a great season and are good centre backs. But it is good for us to show we can play in places such as Rome.
"The squad is strong and we are starting to show that it doesn't matter who is playing - the team is still playing well.
"It is important for us as a group to do that. You always want more and more. Hopefully I will get more games in the rest of the season."
United will learn their Champions League first knockout stage opponents a week today at UEFA's HQ in Nyon, Switzerland.
